Reading fluency depends on repeated, self-correcting practice that strengthens orthographic mapping — the process by which readers connect written words to their pronunciations and meanings. Being inspired about art can help even reluctant readers persist with reading even these challenging names.

Seeing artists as a real person also gives children an early foothold in background knowledge, one of the language comprehension strands in Scarborough's Reading Rope (Scarborough, 2001). It may also spark genuine curiosity about art history — a child who recognizes Van Gogh's face is more likely to look twice at a Van Gogh painting later, which is exactly the kind of personal connection that carries into the Fine Art Cards series.
</details><details class="accordion group" is="">
How do you use 3-part cards?

Begin by using the photo-only cards to teach vocabulary (via the 3-period lesson).
